Grand Theft Auto IV Review by SimonSaysDie
Grand Theft Auto 4 is a third person open-world
game that I played for the Xbox 360. It is about an immigrant
called Niko Bellic who has a vendetta against someone who betrayed him
back home. It is the game where you do what you want when you
want, a lot like an RPG in my opinion. There are cops, criminals,
drugs, guns, deaths, and explosions. The question is, did they do
it right?
The story of GTA can be confusing if you don't pay attention to the cutscenes. Basically Niko is an immigrant led to America by his cousin Roman's lies and his personal vendetta. Upon arrival he turns his occupation to a gun for hire. You go through tons of missions, all the time leading up to the final ending of the game. While a lot of the missions don't relate to the main story they still must be finished to progress through the game. Another feature is the occasional ability to make a choice on someone's fate. You can let them live and run away, or you can kill them. It has no effect on how the story progresses except for the last choice. Although if you spare one you may see them later in the game as a random character. The best part of the story is that it is simple to follow and yet there is so much to it. Overall though the story while simple is a little bit too simple but let's move onto the main element, gameplay. The gameplay in GTA in my opinion is very good with a few exceptions. One thing is that it does have a cover system which works but has some problems. One problem is getting off cover when there is other cover nearby. Niko tends to jump to the second cover even if you don't look or move toward it, which is critical because the game is realistic. Going to realism, there is a feature where cars blow up which is quite fun when you want to blow up a lot of stuff. However, it can be extremely annoying when you have an already damaged car and you get in a fight or chase and it almost immedietly blows up. There are other annoying realistic things too like when you jump out of a car as it moves you stumble and lay there for like 10 seconds. (Continued below).
